Nearly every state requires business entities to register assumed or fictitious names to protect the public and provide information regarding the entity using that name to conduct business. However, states vary a great deal on the processes and requirements, the proper location to file, the protection afforded by registration of the name, post-filing requirements and the need to renew the registration.

This seminar discusses the differences between forced fictitious and voluntary assumed names, the importance of ensuring proper registration and renewal, the protection registration provides, and the varied and changing filing requirements for assumed and forced fictitious names across the U.S.
