CHARITABLE REGISTRATIONS & EXEMPTIONS FOR EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS

By: Ron Barrett, COGENCY GLOBAL INC. on Thu, Nov 30, 2017

In most states, nonprofit educational institutions such as K-12 schools, colleges, and universities are exempt from charitable solicitation registration and renewal/annual report requirements. However, determining which states allow the exemption can be challenging, and, in those that do, it can be difficult to find out how to obtain it. To further complicate things, conditions or exceptions in some state charitable solicitation acts can negate an otherwise available exemption.

The infographic below outlines the various exemptions available to educational institutions and their related organizations (e.g. PTAs, foundations, associations, etc.) along with the requirements your organization must meet. For a detailed breakdown, download our chart here
